Settings

settings.toml (Edit settings, ⌘, / Ctrl+,) holds all options. Every option is written in the file with its default and an explanation; this page gives an overview. Remove a line to go back to its default.

Appearance

[appearance]
mode = "system"              # system | light | dark
font_family = "Iosevka Nerd Font Mono"
font_size = 13               # files, terminal, viewer: 6 to 72
bar_font_size = 11           # path bar, headers, tabs, status lines, sidebar: 6 to 72
symbol_font_size = 16        # file type icons
row_height = 20              # height of a row in the lists
alternate_row_colors = true
titlebar = "auto"            # auto | custom | system (after a restart)
cursor_color = ""            # e.g. "#2f6fd6"; empty: the built-in blue
selection_color = ""         # e.g. "#d4561a"; empty: the built-in orange

Any installed font works. The bundled Iosevka Nerd Font Mono also has the icons shell prompts like starship use. The text size keys (⌃⌥9, ⌃⌥8, ⌃⌥0 / Ctrl+=, Ctrl+-, Ctrl+0) change all sizes together and save them here.

Panes

[panes]
show_hidden = false # dot files and hidden files in new tabs
sort = "name"                # name | extension | size | modified | permissions
dirs_first = true            # folders above files
file_icons = "colored"       # colored | plain

These are the defaults for new tabs; each tab keeps its own sort and hidden-files setting.

Terminal

[terminal]
shell = "" # empty: your login shell, PowerShell on Windows; or e.g. "bash -l"
position = "bottom"          # bottom | left | right
follow_pane = true # the terminal changes folder with the active pane
app = "" # the terminal app F11 opens, see Customize

Global hotkey

[global_hotkey]
enabled = true
keys = "ctrl-shift-c" # brings Bella Commander to the front from any app, or hides it

On Windows and Linux Ctrl+Shift+C also copies in many terminals; change it if it is in the way. On Linux with Wayland, bind bcmd --toggle to a key in your desktop's settings instead.

Editor

[editor]
command = ""                 # F4: your editor; empty: the system's default app
folder = ""                  # F4 on a folder and Shift+F11

[editor.extensions]
# md = "typora"

See Customize for examples.

Updates

[updates]
check = true # ask for a new version at every start

Own commands and rename presets

[[commands]] tables add your own commands, see Customize. [[rename_presets]] tables are the multi-rename presets; they are added when you save one in the multi-rename window and can be edited here.
